Digital inheritance: passing on digital assets with certainty

A digital estate covers everything of personal, sentimental or documentary value held in digital form: photo libraries, correspondence, voice and video recordings, scanned family papers, professional archives. Financial and identity assets have legal frameworks. Memory has almost none — which is why it is the part most reliably lost.

Planning for it is not morbid. It is the same act as writing down where the deeds are kept.

In the Digital Memory Vault, an owner nominates beneficiaries and attaches conditions to each of them. Access can be immediate, delayed, or released on verified events. Different people can receive different parts of the archive: a full estate to one heir, a curated collection to another, a sealed message opened on a chosen date.

Trust levels make the system practical for real families. A trusted contact may be able to confirm a status change without ever gaining access to content. Notaries and legal professionals can act as independent verifiers within a transmission process rather than custodians of the archive.

When an archive changes hands, the receiving generation needs to know that what they hold is what was left to them. Cryptographic provenance provides that: every item carries a verifiable origin and integrity record, so tampering is detectable and authenticity is not a matter of belief. Encryption is end-to-end, and the architecture is post-quantum ready by design, because an inheritance horizon is measured in decades, not product cycles.
